Rome, July 7 (LaPresse) – On the issue of ius scholae, “it’s not about standing firm, but about not remaining in ignorance, from the verb ‘to ignore’.” So said Paolo Barelli, the leader of Forza Italia in the Chamber of Deputies, commenting to LaPresse on the latest statements by the Lega regarding citizenship and the center-right's Ius Scholae proposal (granting citizenship after completing compulsory schooling in Italy). “Tajani says to read what the law actually states, because it’s a text that makes obtaining citizenship much harder and more complex than the current legislation,” added Barelli. “Ours is a common-sense proposal, and Antonio Tajani says, ‘I won’t be censored by those who haven’t even read the law.’ If someone wants to draw attention to themselves to distract from other internal issues, so be it, but we are calm.” He concluded: “Ten years of school means integration. In any case, the government will not fall over ius scholae. And we will not vote with the left just to make a political point.”
