Milan, 9 July (LaPresse) – ‘Citizens understand very well that the great burden, the real problem of justice that weighs on everyone's lives, will not be solved, or even touched upon, by the reform, which in a punitive manner only seeks to separate prosecutors from judges’. This is what Cesare Parodi, president of the National Magistrates Association (ANM), said in an interview with the daily newspaper La Repubblica. ‘Instead, the lack of resources at all levels should have been addressed immediately: magistrates, administrators, resources, more attention needs to be paid to digitisation,’ he added, ‘the length of trials, for example, is proof that the system as a whole is failing due to a lack of ad hoc investment.’ On the constitutional referendum on the separation of careers, Parodi then commented: “The first thing that matters is how many citizens will be willing to go out and vote to ensure that the Constitution is not amended and to protect the principle that justice remains autonomous, independent of political power”.
