Trento, 19 July (LaPresse) – The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, arrived in Tesero, Trentino, to pay tribute to the 268 victims of the Stava massacre. On 19 July 1985, the banks of the Prestavel mine's tailings ponds collapsed, causing the Stava flood. Approximately 180,000 cubic metres of mud swept through the village at a speed of 90 kilometres per hour, destroying lives and homes: 268 people were killed, including 28 children, 31 teenagers, 120 women and 89 men. The Head of State laid a wreath at the monument to the victims in the cemetery of San Leonardo in Tesero.
