Milan, July 21 (LaPresse) – "I spoke with Giuseppe Sala on Friday and then we talked a little more on Saturday. I wanted to express my closeness and support to him," said Attilio Fontana, President of the Lombardy Region, in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
"I have always been a supporter of the presumption of innocence, regardless of political affiliations. There are three levels of judgment, but first there is the presumption of innocence. For everyone," he added.
"What strikes me these days is reading the amount of investigative details and intercepted conversations that at this stage should not be available to just anyone. This reminds me of the time when I was under investigation and read in newspapers things my poor mother had done years before that were unknown even to me until then. And my surprise is even greater in seeing that nothing happens in the meantime; things just keep going on like this."
For Fontana, the investigation "seems to be essentially based on a theory. So far, only elements supporting the prosecution’s theory have emerged; we have yet to hear those of the defense. And then, there must be a ruling by a third party who judges," he concluded.
"What is happening now hurts Milan and hurts Lombardy."
