Milan, July 24 (LaPresse) – The CSM plenary session, according to sources, has approved by majority the measure to protect Judge Raffaele Piccirillo, who in an interview expressed concerns about the handling of the Almasri case and was subsequently criticized by the Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio. There were five dissenting votes from center-right lay members: Enrico Aimi, Isabella Bertolini, Daniela Bianchini, Claudia Eccher, and Felice Giuffrè. The only abstention came from the magistrate councilor Bernadette Nicotra, who did not sign the request to open the protection procedure. The CSM particularly “notes the seriousness of the statements made by the Minister of Justice, due to their potential impact on citizens’ trust in the judiciary”; “considers them likely to affect the calm and independent exercise of jurisdiction”; and “therefore asserts the need, within its constitutional duties, to protect the prestige of the judicial order, reiterating the call to respect the principles of autonomy, independence, and loyal cooperation among the branches of government.”
