Milan, 24 July (LaPresse) – ‘I would like to address the girls, the athletes. I asked you to come here to thank you and congratulate you. Thank you for playing a splendid European Championship and for doing honour to the jersey and flag of our country.’ These were the words of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, during the ceremony at the Quirinale with the women's national football team, coached by Andrea Soncin, fresh from the European Championships in Switzerland, where the Azzurre reached the semi-finals. Mattarella had already honoured the women's national team's achievements in 2019, after their World Cup adventure in France, which ended in the quarter-finals.
