Milan, 3 September (LaPresse) – ‘Dear President Meloni, as you will already have learned from reports in the Italian and international press, the Global Sumud Flotilla is about to set sail with 40 boats loaded with many tonnes of humanitarian aid collected with the enthusiastic participation of civil society and citizens, with the aim of bringing essential supplies to Gaza for distribution to the Palestinian population.’ This was stated by the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein, in a letter sent to the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni. “This grassroots, non-violent and peaceful humanitarian mission, which will be carried out in accordance with international law, has the support of 44 delegations from around the world, comprising thousands of activists, including many Italian citizens and four members of the Italian Parliament belonging to various political parties,” she added. ‘I am writing to inform you that among them will be MP Arturo Scotto and MEP Annalisa Corrado of the Democratic Party, and I ask you to keep me informed about what the Italian government intends to do to ensure the protection and safety of the entire crew of the humanitarian mission, if necessary. I look forward to your positive response and send you my best regards,’ Schlein concludes.
