Rome, 5 September (LaPresse) – "I would like to thank Antonio Decaro for choosing to serve our region. I believe he is the strongest and most authoritative figure to respond to the future needs of this land and to build, especially from here, the alternative that is needed to end as soon as possible the terrible period that the right wing has dragged Italy into. Apulia faces crucial and difficult challenges: how to stem growing poverty, how to reverse the demographic crisis, how to combat the effects of climate change, how to defend collective rights and individual freedoms with peace and coexistence as its political and cultural horizon. The South, which has unfortunately seen its European cohesion funds halved, is paying the highest price for inequality, the privatisation of welfare and rearmament policies. These are difficult times in which everyone must do their part: and together, there is an urgent need to regenerate a forward-looking and industrious political system. I am fully committed to this, and my willingness to stand as a candidate on the AVS list in a spirit of service has no other objective than this: to support the progressive alliance, to support Decaro, to push for the change that Puglia and Italy need and, with the AVS team, to work for the entry into the regional council of a new generation of women and men who represent the best resources of our land. To this end, I will collaborate loyally and passionately with Antonio Decaro'. Thus Nichi Vendola in a statement.
