Rome, 17 October (LaPresse) – ‘There are no easy solutions for a world of work that is obviously influenced by increasingly interdependent markets. We know that work has been the driving force behind Italy's economic and social growth. Full employment is a goal that goes beyond dignity and concerns freedom.’ These were the words of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, speaking at the ceremony for the awarding of the Stars of Merit for Labour for the year 2025. "Employment which, as stated in Article 36 of the Constitution, must ensure that every worker receives “a wage proportionate to the quantity and quality of their work and in any case sufficient to ensure a free and dignified existence for themselves and their family”. The negative wage dynamics of the last decade are now showing signs of reversal. We are well aware that wages have been the main tool in our country for reducing inequalities and ensuring the fair enjoyment of the fruits of innovation and progress. This is an issue that cannot be ignored because it particularly affects the future of our young people, too many of whom are forced to emigrate. This often painful path is sometimes chosen because of the difficulty of finding work and, often, because of the low level of pay when entering the world of work,' emphasises the Head of State.
