Milan, Oct. 25 (LaPresse) – “In the face of so many sterile discussions about alleged – and absurd – democratic emergencies, I allow myself to say that our great and true emergency has long been, and still remains today, justice. Unfortunately, and I say this as a daughter, not even the best reform will ever be able to give my father back thirty years of life poisoned and devastated by slanders and false accusations.”
This was written by Marina Berlusconi, daughter of the former Prime Minister and founder of Forza Italia, in a public letter published on the front page of Il Giornale. In Italy, there is a “part of the judiciary that considers itself a counter-power invested with an ideological mission. It is also because of this factional spirit that, unfortunately, Italy remains a ‘judicialist’ country, where the desire for public shaming continues to drive the worst impulses of the media and public opinion.”
For this reason, Marina Berlusconi says she is “firmly convinced of the need for a reform of the judicial system” that provides for the “separation of careers between public prosecutors and judges” and “the reform of the Superior Council of the Judiciary to reduce the excessive power of factions.”
