(LaPresse) – ‘The data from COP30 in Belém reveal a disturbing fact: 1,600 oil and gas lobbyists gained access to the climate negotiations, becoming the second largest delegation after Brazil. One in 25 participants is a representative of the fossil fuel industry: the highest concentration ever recorded at a COP’ . This was stated in a note from COP30 in Belém by Angelo Bonelli, AVS Member of Parliament and leader of Europa Verde. "According to Kick Big Polluters Out, the presence of fossil fuels has increased by 12% compared to last year. In the last five years, 7,000 oil and gas lobbyists have entered the UN climate summits while extreme events and fossil fuel profits are on the rise. These figures clearly explain why Putin and Trump are sabotaging COP30: – Russia has 47,000 billion m³ of gas and produces 700 billion m³ per year; – the US is the world's leading producer of LNG and consumes three times more gas and twice as much oil as the EU. They defend fossil fuel revenues. It is extremely serious that President Meloni has aligned herself with this strategy, effectively becoming an oil lobbyist on behalf of Trump – and therefore Putin – on climate policy. While Belém discusses how to save the planet, the Meloni government has chosen to transform Italy into a gas hub, damaging the environment, businesses and families," he concludes.
