Milan, 18 December (LaPresse) – "Seizing hundreds of billions of Russian assets in Europe simply means seizing billions more euros of Italian, European and Russian assets, so it doesn't seem like the smartest solution to me. If someone asks me, 'Are you willing to pay tens of billions of euros of Italian money for years to come to keep the war going by supporting weapons in Ukraine? No, but not because Putin tells me so, but because common sense tells me so.‘ This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and League leader Matteo Salvini, speaking to journalists in Casalecchio di Reno (Bologna). ’We are not at war with Russia. I am not anyone's spokesperson. It was not me who made trade agreements with Putin and Moscow, but the ministers and prime ministers of the Democratic Party who shook hands, rewarded and embraced them. Now, after almost four years of war, I am simply working for peace and supporting Trump's efforts to stop the arms trade. It seems to me that someone else has an interest in the war continuing," he added.
