Rome, 27 December (LaPresse) – "I would like to express my appreciation and satisfaction for this particularly complex and important operation, which has led to the arrest of nine people accused of financing Hamas, through a number of self-styled charitable associations, to the tune of over seven million euros. Among them is the president of the Association of Palestinians in Italy, Mohammad Mahmoud Ahmad Hannoun, described by investigators as “a member of the foreign wing of the terrorist organisation Hamas” and “the head of the Italian cell of the Hamas organisation”." This was stated by the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni. “I express my heartfelt thanks, both personally and on behalf of the entire government, to all those who made this operation possible – the Genoa Public Prosecutor's Office, the National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Directorate, the State Police, the Guardia di Finanza, as well as the information support provided by AISE-Agenzia Informazioni e Sicurezza Esterna (External Information and Security Agency),” concluded the Prime Minister.
