Rome, Feb. 8 (LaPresse) – “It is thought-provoking that in 2026 an artist should feel compelled to give up doing his job because of the climate of intimidation and hatred that has been created around him. I express my solidarity with Andrea Pucci, who has decided to withdraw from Sanremo due to the insults and threats directed at him and his family. It is unacceptable that ideological pressure should go so far as to push someone to give up going on stage.” Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni wrote this on social media after the comedian’s decision to withdraw from Sanremo. “But this also tells of the double standards of the left, which considers satire ‘sacred’ (including insults) when it is directed at its opponents, but calls for censorship against those who say things the left itself does not share. The illiberal drift of the left in Italy is becoming frightening,” she added.
