Rome, 7 March (LaPresse) – ‘We have a legal obligation to defend other European Union member states under the Lisbon Treaty. We also have this obligation towards our partners under NATO. At least as far as defence is concerned. However, when it comes to other types of operations, we must respect the constitution and the relevant and necessary parliamentary procedure.’ Emma Bonino made these comments in an interview with La Repubblica. ‘President Meloni seems completely voiceless to me,’ she continued. ‘Every European leader wanted to have their say. Meanwhile, she did not attend the briefing in the Chamber of Deputies the day before yesterday, but brought forward her communications ahead of the next European Council by a whole week. Not to mention the discord among her own government.’
