Rome, Mar 16 (LaPresse) – “I want to send you a message from my home because what I am about to talk about concerns the life of each of us, justice. Because it may happen to you out of the blue to see something strange arrive while you are at home. I want to propose a simple reflection: in any dispute, in any competition, the person who is called to judge who is right and who is wrong must not be a friend of either of the two parties involved. Those of you who are passionate about football like me would go to watch a match in which the referee wore the same shirt as one of the two teams and at the end of the match went to dinner with the players of that team? It would be absurd. This concept, so evident, is the subject of the referendum for which people will vote on March 22 and 23. We are not talking about football of course, we are talking about the most important dispute of all for individuals and for society, we are talking about the criminal trial with which the life and freedom of people are decided. Doesn’t it seem obvious to you that also in this case, just like in a football match, the one who decides, that is the judge, must not be a friend, colleague, tied by common interests with either of the two parties, neither the one who accuses nor the one who defends? It is so obvious that in all the other democracies of Europe things have always worked this way. Italy until now has been an exception among democracies. A system like ours exists only in Russia, in China, in other dictatorships, moreover in Italy it was introduced by Mussolini and by fascism”. So the Deputy Prime Minister and secretary of FI, Antonio Tajani, in a video released via social media ahead of the referendum on justice reform scheduled for March 22 and 23.
