Rome, 19 March (LaPresse) – Certain categories of voters who, for work-related reasons, are away from their place of residence are given the option to vote at polling stations other than those where they are registered. To prevent cases of ‘double voting’, the local authority where the voter has cast their ballot immediately notifies the local authority of their place of residence that the voter has exercised their right to vote, so that this can be recorded in the registers of their registered polling station. A new feature of this referendum is that the Ministry of the Interior, in order to heighten vigilance and implement even more effective preventive measures, has issued a specific circular to prefects requesting that every voter who votes at a polling station other than their registered one be informed of the exchange of communications between the offices of the two municipalities and of the criminal penalties applicable in the event of a breach of the ‘double voting’ ban.
