Rome, 2 April (LaPresse) – Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni held a telephone conversation today with the UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, “to exchange views on the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz”. This was reported in a statement from Palazzo Chigi, explaining that the two leaders “discussed in depth the impact of the crisis on regional stability and global energy markets, with particular attention to the repercussions for national economies”. During the conversation, they reiterated “their shared concern regarding threats to the security of partners in the region, reaffirming the importance of close cooperation with the Gulf states”. In emphasising the international community’s interest in the full protection of freedom of navigation, the statement concludes, Meloni and Starmer agreed to maintain “constant coordination on initiatives aimed at de-escalation and ensuring the security of trade routes in the area”.
