Rome, 4 April (LaPresse) – "In a rapidly changing world, reflecting on NATO’s founding principles means understanding not only its origins, but above all its enduring relevance. Seventy-seven years after its creation on 4 April 1949, the Alliance continues to be based on a simple yet essential idea: collective defence. A principle that is not merely military, but deeply political, founded on the values of freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law. Today, faced with increasingly complex threats, which complement traditional ones – from hybrid warfare to disinformation – preserving a spirit of common defence is more necessary than ever. In this context, NATO’s European pillar plays a crucial role: it strengthens collective security, enhances resilience and consolidates response capabilities, making a decisive contribution to the Alliance’s stability.” So said Defence Minister Guido Crosetto on X.
