Rome, 10 April (LaPresse) – “It’s clear that I can’t shy away from this national attention; I can’t avoid the questions. It’s an interesting development; I’m flattered.” So said the mayor of Genoa, Silvia Salis, in an interview with Bloomberg featured in an online article entitled ‘An anti-Meloni figure emerges in Italy with the aim of unseating the original’. Salis emphasises that she would not take part in any centre-left primaries. However, if she were asked directly to stand as a candidate, she replies: “Faced with a united request, I cannot say that I would not even consider it; that would be a lie.” The mayor describes herself as “a progressive candidate who firmly believes that economic development and social justice can coexist”. “This right-wing government,” she adds in the interview, “has been unable to achieve either, making both the few and the many unhappy. Which, in itself, is already a great achievement.” Finally, when asked if she sees any similarities with the Prime Minister, Salis laughs and replies: “No, my name is Silvia. But yes, I am a mother, I am a Christian and I am also married. I have all the required characteristics.”
