Rome, 30 April (LaPresse) – “The Israeli army is illegally boarding the ships of the Global Sumud Flotilla bound for Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid. This constitutes international piracy. It is yet another unacceptable violation of the law of the sea, carried out with arrogance off the coast of Cyprus, in international waters 50 miles from the Greek coast and therefore from Europe. Contact with the humanitarian activists on board has been lost for several hours. The boarding is illegal and the activists have been seized in international waters. This illegal operation by the IDF must cease immediately and the seized activists must be released without delay. The European institutions and the Italian Government must issue a clear condemnation and do everything in their power to safeguard the safety of the detained activists, to ensure their immediate release and to secure the release of all the humanitarian aid needed by the Palestinians in Gaza.” So said the secretary of the PD, Elly Schlein.
