Rome, Jan. 27 (LaPresse) – Minimal changes for Italian players in the global women’s rankings released this morning by the WTA following the conclusion of the year’s first Grand Slam in Melbourne. This week, there are still three Italian players in the top 100.

Jasmine Paolini remains the leading Italian player, holding steady at fourth place (her career best). She is tasked with maintaining a stellar 2024, highlighted by her first two Grand Slam finals (Roland Garros and Wimbledon), her first WTA 1000 title (Dubai), and her qualification for the Finals (both in singles and doubles).

On October 28, Paolini matched the fourth-place ranking achieved by Francesca Schiavone on January 31, 2011, as the highest-ever ranking for an Italian female player.

Behind her, Elisabetta Cocciaretto dropped three spots to 59th, while Lucia Bronzetti moved up ten places to 66th. Sara Errani climbed two spots to 105th. The veteran remains in the doubles top 10, a category in which she won Olympic gold with Paolini at the Paris 2024 Games.

Martina Trevisan, who dropped out of the top 100 last September after 32 consecutive months within it, lost seven positions and now sits at 130th. Lucrezia Stefanini gained two places to reach 141st.

Nuria Brancaccio dropped five spots to 188th, while Giorgia Pedone and Nicole Fossa Huergo fell three spots each, to 197th and 265th, respectively. Camilla Rosatello gained three places, climbing to 318th and closing the Italian top ten.
