Torino, Feb. 18 (LaPresse) – Joshua Tarling won the 12km time trial with a start and finish at Al Hudayriyat Island, the second stage of the UAE Tour, and is now the new leader of the general classification. The Ineos Grenadiers time trialist completed the race in 12:55, beating Stefan Bissegger (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team) by 13 seconds and Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates – XRG) by 18 seconds.
"Since the end of last year, I’ve been unlucky and kept finishing second behind Evenepoel in time trials, so I really needed this," said the winner. "I had a good winter and gained confidence for today. The first part was very windy, with a headwind, and then crosswinds. It was the toughest section, finishing at 56.6 km/h was fantastic. Now that I've regained confidence, I can't wait for tomorrow's stage, the upcoming weekend, and the rest of the season."
