Turin, 21 Mar. (LaPresse) – Lorenzo Sonego and Matteo Arnaldi shine in their debut at the Miami Open, the Masters 1000 in Florida that completes the Sunshine Double. The man from Turin (ATP 38) beat Mariano Navone (ATP 62) 7-5, 7-5. He has now won 150 matches in his ATP career, 24 of them by 8 games to 7 and 39 by free points, compared to the Argentine's 30. Sonego won four more points directly with his serve and four more in baseline rallies. In the second round he will face Taylor Fritz, world number 4, with the aim of completing his seventh career win against a Top 10 player. Arnaldi (35) took two and a half hours to beat Yibing Wu 7-6(3) 4-6 6-3, who is currently number 421 but was number 54 in 2023. His journey will continue against Czech Tomas Machac, who stopped him in the round of 16 in Miami last year, in his only previous participation in the tournament. Lucia Bronzetti's adventure, on the other hand, came to an end when she lost 6-3 5-7 6-4, after a battle lasting over two and three quarter hours, to the Greek Maria Sakkari, no.51 in the ranking and 28th in the seedings.
