Milan, 27 Mar. (LaPresse/Ap) – On Thursday, the NBA teams will be updated on the league's plans to further ally itself with FIBA and expand its role in European basketball. The briefing will be part of today's session of the league's Board of Governors meeting. Although no plans are expected to be finalised during the meeting, it will offer team owners the opportunity to participate in the discussions and hear directly from Commissioner Adam Silver about the status of the talks. The NBA and FIBA have been discussing for some time the addition of an annual competition in Europe or even having an NBA-run league there. It was a topic of discussion at a meeting of the Board of Governors last September, which was attended by FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis. Silver is expected to hold a press conference on Thursday afternoon at the end of the meeting, with the plan for Europe, where he is and what will happen, sure to be among the topics he will discuss. In January, speaking at the NBA Paris Games, when the league took advantage of its trip to France to meet with European stakeholders on the topic of the future of basketball on that continent, Silver said he believed the NBA remained ‘on track’ in the process of expanding its presence in Europe. That was also when he said the league's governors would be further informed during the March meeting.
