Madrid (Spain), 7 Apr. (LaPresse) – The girl who accused Dani Alves of rape has appealed to the Spanish Supreme Court against the sentence of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia which acquitted, in second instance, the former Barcelona, PSG and Juventus player, after a first instance sentence of four years and six months. The news was reported by the public radio and television station Rtve, quoting the woman's lawyer, Ester García. Last week the Barcelona prosecutor's office also appealed against the sentence. At the end of March the Catalan court had acquitted Alves, stating that there was not ‘sufficient evidence’ to exclude his presumption of innocence, referring to a ‘lack of reliability’ in the woman's testimony. The judges' decision sparked widespread controversy in Spain. “Once again the victim is being questioned, and a man's word prevails over a woman's,” said Minister for Equality Ana Redondo.
