Milan, 8 Apr (LaPresse) – ‘I am sure that Jannik will come back to the same level as before. For anything, he knows he can count on me: I think he is handling this situation in the best possible way and I am happy to have given him this assist’. This is how Matteo Berrettini spoke in a press conference in Monte Carlo, after the victory against Alexander Zverev that indirectly ‘smiled’ at Jannik Sinner, who made sure he could take the court at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia as the leader of the Atp ranking. ‘We spoke for the last time a few weeks ago, there has always been great mutual respect between us: in this moment, however, it is right to leave him his space,’ commented the Italian as reported by Supertennis. After a day of rest, Berrettini will return to the court on Thursday to face the winner of the match between Jiri Lehecka and Lorenzo Musetti. There is a chance, therefore, to witness an all-Italian derby for a place in the quarter-finals. ‘Lorenzo has all the right cards to beat Lehecka, but it will be a tough match. When we play in the Davis Cup we cheer for each other, while in these tournaments everyone is focused on their own path: in two days we might meet again as adversaries, as teammates we hope to win another cup soon…,' Berrettini concluded.
