Rome, 19 Apr (LaPresse) – ‘What happened during a youth football match in Umbria is simply unacceptable. The chilling words addressed to a young referee not only hurt those who receive them, but outrage the entire world of sport. We can no longer allow certain drifts to be tolerated or minimised. The FIGC has a moral and institutional duty to intervene with exemplary sanctions, starting with life-long disqualification for those responsible for such serious acts. Sport must be a vehicle for education, respect and inclusion, not a breeding ground for hatred and discrimination. We need a cultural change of pace, and this change starts with clear rules and certain punishments to protect the values that sport should embody'. Thus Carolina Morace, former footballer and coach, now Member of the 5 Star Movement, in a note.
