Rome, 21 April (LaPresse) – Jelena Ostapenko, ranked 24th in the WTA rankings, completed a superb tournament in Stuttgart. After beating Iga Swiatek for the sixth time in six matches in the quarter-finals, she lost only five games to the Belarusian number 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final. In a match that was never really in doubt, she won 6-4, 6-1 to claim the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, WTA 500 title (prize money $925,661) at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, Germany. The Latvian is the first player to win a WTA tournament on clay after beating the top two players in the world since 2012. The last to achieve this was Serena Williams in Madrid, defeating Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova.
