Milan, April 26 (LaPresse) – Agnes Ngetich has become the first athlete to break the 30-minute barrier in a women-only 10 km road race, clocking 29:27 at the Adizero Road To Records event in Herzogenaurach on Saturday.
The 24-year-old Kenyan, already the world record holder for the mixed 10 km race (28:46), was in outstanding form, winning by more than a minute.
After just five minutes, she had already pulled away from the group, building a comfortable lead.
Following a fast start over the first two kilometers, Ngetich maintained a pace of 2:57/km over the next three kilometers, reaching the halfway point in 14:37 and setting herself up to break the previous world record of 30:01, held by the late Agnes Jebet Tirop.
