Milan, 26 April (LaPresse) – Matteo Arnaldi's feat at the Mutua Madrid Open (Masters 1000 – prize money €8,055,385). The Italian, ranked 44th in the ATP rankings, reaches the third round thanks to a historic victory over Novak Djokovic, ranked 5th in the world and three-time winner of the tournament, in two sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4 on his second match point. This is Arnaldi's first victory against a former world No. 1 and his fifth against a top ten player in his career. Djokovic was returning to the Caja Magica for the first time since 2022, when he lost in the semi-finals to Carlos Alcaraz. The Serbian won the titles in Madrid in 2011, 2016 and 2019.
