Milan, 12 May (LaPresse) – Venezia won 2-1 at home against Fiorentina in the postponed match of the 36th day of Serie A, taking a very important step towards salvation. Di Francesco's team now has 29 points and has overtaken Empoli and Lecce in one fell swoop. It was a heavy defeat for Palladino's Fiorentina, which remains on 59 points and must now say goodbye to its last chance of returning to the Europa League. The first half saw few chances, with the two teams alternating moments of intensity with long periods of study and control. The best chances came in the final stages, with Fiorentina dangerous through Ndour, who grazed the crossbar from distance. Venezia responded through Yeboah, who shot wide from close range with only De Gea to beat. The game was played in heavy rain. The second half started vehemently for Venezia, who took a deserved lead in the 60th minute thanks to a goal by Candé, who was clever in getting into position and beating De Gea from close range. In the 68th minute, the Lagunari doubled their lead with Oristanio on the counterattack, following a cross from the right by Zerbin. Fiorentina faltered but did not collapse and, in the 77th minute, reduced the deficit with a beautiful goal by Mandragora, who surprised Radu with a left-footed shot from the centre of the box. However, it was not enough to avoid defeat, and in the final minutes, Venezia came close to scoring a third.
