Milan, 20 May (LaPresse) – At the age of 38, former Napoli striker Jose Callejon is retiring from football. The announcement was made by his current club in Spain, Marbella, which posted on social media inviting all fans to go to the stadium on Saturday for the decisive match against Antequera to secure their place in Primera Federacion (the Spanish Serie C). After starting his career with Castilla and Espanyol, Callejon played for Real Madrid alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, with whom he won La Liga in 2012. Upon arriving in Italy, Callejon became a key player for Napoli, especially under Maurizio Sarri, where he played for seven seasons. He played 349 games and scored 82 goals in all competitions. With 65 goals, he is the top Spanish scorer in Serie A history. He added two Coppa Italia titles in 2014 and 2020 to his trophy cabinet. Callejon ended his career playing for Fiorentina (2020-2022), before returning to Spain to play for Granada (2022-2024) and Marbella. He also made five appearances for the Spanish national team.
