Turin, 1 June (LaPresse) – Simon Yates has won the 108th edition of the Giro d'Italia, which ended with a 143 km final stage in Rome. The Visma-Lease a Bike captain retained the pink jersey at the end of the final stage, winning his first Giro in his career. On the podium were Mexico's Isaac Del Toro (UAE Team Emirates), who also won the white jersey as best young rider, and Ecuador's Richard Carapaz (EF-Education EasyPost). Olav Kooij, sprinter for Visma-Lease a Bike, won the sprint finish in Rome, capitalising on the great work of his teammates Wout Van Aert and Edoardo Affini. Behind him was Australian Kaden Groves (Alpecin Deceuninck), with Matteo Moschetti (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) third, the best of the Italians. Fourth was Mads Pedersen (Lidl Trek), who took the cyclamen jersey for the points classification and was the absolute star of this Giro with four stage wins. Also in the top ten were Filippo Baroncini (UAE Team Emirates) in seventh, Enrico Zanoncello (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè) in ninth and Giovanni Lonardi (Team Polti VisitMalta) in tenth.
