Milan, June 11 (LaPresse/AP) – Chile’s coach Ricardo Gareca has announced his resignation after failing to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup. The Chilean national team lost 2-0 to Bolivia overnight (Italian time), missing out on World Cup qualification for the third consecutive time.
Gareca, the 67-year-old Argentine coach who led Peru to the 2018 World Cup, explained during a post-match press conference that he was stepping down. In 17 matches, he recorded four wins, four draws, and nine losses.
“I want to publicly thank the players and the management for the support they gave us until the end,” Gareca stated.
