Milan, June 11 (LaPresse) – February 7 or 8, 2026 is a date to mark on the calendar for all fans of Italian football and beyond. According to the American site The Athletic, the Serie A match between Milan and Como could be the first national league game to be played abroad—specifically in Perth, Australia.
What facilitates this relocation is the fact that the San Siro stadium will be at the disposal of the IOC and the organizing committee of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics that weekend, since the opening ceremony is scheduled for February 6.
Serie A has long been working on organizing a league match abroad (initially considering the USA or the Middle East), and at the moment, the offices in Via Rosellini are evaluating the possibility, pending authorization from FIFA, UEFA, and FIGC.
Until now, the global football governing body has consistently rejected such requests, particularly from the Premier League and Spain’s La Liga. Should Serie A be the first to break this barrier, it would be a major public relations success.
The goal is to follow the example of American professional sports such as the NBA and NFL, which have been holding regular season games overseas for years, especially in Mexico and Europe.
