Rome, June 12 (LaPresse) – There’s no encouraging news for Lorenzo Musetti, who was forced to retire at the beginning of the fourth set of the Roland Garros semifinal against Alcaraz.

Medical tests — specifically an MRI scan performed after initial examinations in Paris — have confirmed a grade 1 strain of the adductor muscle in his left leg. The 23-year-old from Carrara shared a photo on his Instagram account with the caption "Loading"…

Given the circumstances, his participation in the upcoming ATP 500 Queen’s Club tournament next week is in doubt. Musetti, who recently reached a career-best ranking of world no. 6, was runner-up there last year, losing in the final to American Tommy Paul — meaning he has ranking points to defend.

Musetti has enjoyed a spectacular clay season, reaching the final in Monte Carlo and semifinals in Madrid, Rome, and most recently, Roland Garros.

However, now he faces two major "deadlines" on grass: in addition to the Queen’s final, the Tuscan player — who was the most successful grass-court player last season — also reached the semifinals at Wimbledon, where he was stopped by Novak Djokovic.

“The MRI confirmed what we had already seen from the tests in Paris,” his coach Simone Tartarini told Tuttosport. “There are technical recovery times, and pushing it wouldn't make sense. We’re not making any predictions either way. The next few days will be important for making final decisions, in agreement with the medical team.”
