Bologna, June 16 (LaPresse) – Another battle to fight for Achille Polonara, forward for Virtus Bologna and the Italian national basketball team. Just hours before game 3 of the championship finals, the Emilia-based club announced in a statement that "in recent weeks Achille Polonara has undergone further specialized medical examinations, following which a diagnosis of myeloid leukemia was made. Polonara is now hospitalized at Sant’Orsola Malpighi Hospital in Bologna where he has already begun specific treatments. The entire Virtus Segafredo Bologna family stands close to Achille and his loved ones and wishes him a speedy recovery. Stay strong Achi, we are all with you and waiting for you."
In recent months, Polonara was also diagnosed with testicular cancer, which he was able to overcome with surgery and even returned to playing.
