Milan, June 24 (LaPresse) – A good start for Jasmine Paolini at the "Bad Homburg Open" (WTA 500 – prize money $1,064,510), taking place on the grass courts of the German city in Hesse. It’s the last opportunity – alongside Eastbourne – to fine-tune preparation for Wimbledon.
The 29-year-old from Bagni di Lucca, ranked No. 4 in the world (equaling her career best) and the second seed in the draw, defeated Canada’s Leylah Fernandez, world No. 29, in the second round with a score of 7-6 (8), 7-6 (6) after about 2 hours and 30 minutes of play, despite missing several match points.
This marks Paolini's first grass-court win of the season – a crucial result as she heads into Wimbledon, where she will be defending her finalist points.
