Turin, 13 July (LaPresse) – Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ) has won the Giro d'Italia Women. Marlen Reusser (Movistar Team) and Sarah Gigante (AG Insurance – Soudal Team) finished second and third, 18‘ and 1'11’ behind. ‘It was an incredible Giro – for me and for the team. The last eight days have been intense: we had a common goal and we achieved it,’ said the winner. ‘Yesterday was a fantastic stage, but the work wasn't over, we had to stay focused on today's stage, and that's exactly what we did. I'm speechless… this feeling is simply incredible.’ The eighth and final stage, the 134 km Forlì-Imola, was won by Liane Lippert (Movistar Team) in a tight sprint ahead of Anna Van der Breggen (Team SD Worx – Protime). Third place, eight seconds behind, went to her teammate Marlen Reusser. "I'm so happy — winning two stages is a dream. Yesterday was a bit disappointing, so today we really wanted to redeem ourselves and we raced with the goal of winning,‘ said Lippert. ’It was an honour to see Marlen working for me in the final, she is an extraordinary cyclist and a special person. I knew I had to do it to make her smile again."
