Milan, 21 July (LaPresse) – Matteo Arnaldi has got off to a good start in the ATP summer season on hard courts in North America, which will culminate at Flushing Meadows with the US Open. The first stop is Washington, which is hosting the Mubadala Citi DC Open (prize money $2,396,115), the only combined tournament that brings together an ATP 500 and a WTA 500 and the oldest still on the calendar hosted in a public park, scheduled at the William H.G. Fitzgerald Tennis Centre in Rock Creek Park from 21 to 27 July. The Sanremo native (ATP 44), the only Italian not seeded in the main draw, defeated Germany's Daniel Altmaier (61) in the first round in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(2), after two hours and 42 minutes of play and after saving four match points. In the next round, Arnaldi will face fellow Italian Lorenzo Sonego.
