Turin, 22 July (LaPresse) – Six victories in as many bouts and Rossella Fiamingo secures her place in the main draw of the women's épée competition scheduled for tomorrow. An excellent performance in the preliminary rounds was enough to qualify the only Italian competitor on the piste today on the opening day of the 2025 World Championships in Tbilisi, dedicated to the preliminary rounds of the women's épée and men's foil individual events. Fiamingo, competing in her tenth world championship and with two titles already under her belt, approached the qualifying day with concentration and character, achieving a clean sweep of victories (with only eight hits conceded), which allowed her to finish fourth in the group stage out of 188 participants, thus avoiding the preliminary round. The Carabinieri Olympian thus joins her teammates Alberta Santuccio, Giulia Rizzi and Sara Kowalczyk, who had already qualified on ranking, in tomorrow's main draw. The same goes for foil fencers Tommaso Marini, Guillaume Bianchi, Filippo Macchi and Alessio Foconi, all of whom were admitted directly to the main draw of 64, being among the “top 16” in the world rankings.
