Turin, 22 July (LaPresse) – Former English midfielder Paul Gascoigne has returned home and is “doing well”, according to a spokesperson. Gascoigne was admitted to hospital over the weekend. ‘Paul voluntarily went to the emergency room on Friday after struggling with a throat problem that had been troubling him for some time,’ Carly Saward of the MNT agency told the Associated Press. ‘He has already returned home and is doing well.’ The British newspaper The Sun reported that 58-year-old Gascoigne was found by a friend ‘semi-conscious’ at his home in Poole, southern England, on Friday and was initially admitted to intensive care. Gascoigne, who helped England reach the semi-finals of the 1990 World Cup and the 1996 European Championships, was widely regarded as one of the most talented players of his generation but struggled with alcohol addiction for decades and had suffered from various health problems in recent years.
