Milan, 23 July (LaPresse) – Italy's women's water polo team finished seventh at the World Championships in Singapore. They overcame Japan in a bitter finale. Cergol and captain Cocchiere scored five goals in a rollercoaster match in which Setterosa took an early 5-0 lead before being pegged back to 5-5 in the first half. Then came the break between the second and third quarters, with the score at 11-4, which decided the match. In their first year of Olympic qualification, this is a starting point for the team to grow and consolidate ahead of the European Championships in Funchal in 2026.
