Frankfurt (Germany), 25 July (LaPresse) – Lorenzo Bonicelli, athlete of the Italian gymnastics team at the 32nd Summer Universiade in Essen, is currently ‘in intensive care’ but is not ‘in danger of his life’ and will complete his rehabilitation in Italy. This was communicated to LaPresse by the University Hospital of Essen, where the Italian athlete underwent surgery following an accident during his routine on the rings. ‘At the moment, we can confirm that the patient is in intensive care. His life is not in danger,’ explained a hospital spokeswoman, adding that ‘his family is with him and his teammates visited him and were able to say goodbye before leaving for Italy.’ Bonicelli ‘will complete the next phase of his rehabilitation in Italy,’ the spokeswoman said, adding that the University Hospital wishes the Italian athlete a speedy recovery.
