Turin, 10 August. (LaPresse) – A step forward this season for Gianmarco Tamberi. The world and European high jump champion cleared 2.20 metres on his second attempt at the meeting in Heilbronn, Germany, before failing three times at 2.24 metres, adding four centimetres to his best result of the year, 2.16 metres, achieved at the Golden Gala in Rome in early June. These are not yet the heights that the Italian star, Olympic champion in Tokyo, would like to achieve as he seeks to regain his form to be competitive at international level, but they are an improvement on last week's 2.12 metres at the Italian Championships in Caorle. In the German competition, the Marche athlete from the Fiamme Oro club finished fourth, while Marco Fassinotti (Aeronautica) finished with 2.10 metres. Starting at 2.10 metres, the Ancona athlete, wearing a fuchsia pink jersey and patterned shorts, cleared the bar. He also cleared 2.15 metres on his first attempt, touching the bar but not knocking it down. Marco Fassinotti, on the other hand, had three failed attempts and finished with 2.10 as his best result. The bar was raised to 2.20 with Tamberi, this time wearing yellow shorts, who moved the loudspeaker towards him to hear the music better (as always, he chose “Animals” by Martin Garrix), but his first attempt was a clear failure. The second attempt is successful and the Italian athlete lets out a cry of relief. In the meantime, Tobias Potye and Hamish Kerr are OK on their first attempts, Jan Stefela on his third. The competition continues at 2.24 metres: on his first attempt, Tamberi fails to get off the ground and passes under the bar, on his second he knocks it down, and he also fails on his third attempt.
