Rome, Aug 19 (LaPresse) – This year’s UEFA Champions League group stage draw will take place in Monte Carlo on August 28 at 6 p.m., following exactly the same procedure as last year. The 36 participating teams will be divided into four pots based on their individual coefficient, with the reigning Champions League titleholder seeded in Pot 1. Starting from Pot 1, the automated software—already used last year—will select eight opponents, taking into account the following principles: two teams from each of the four pots; one home and one away game against teams from each pot drawn by the software; no teams from the same federation drawn together; and no more than two opponents from the same federation. The same procedure will be repeated for all other teams until the pairings are complete. The Champions League match schedule, with dates and kick-off times, will be announced by Saturday, August 30.
The novelty this season is that the group stage draws for the Europa League and the Conference League will for the first time be brought together in a single special show, broadcast live from the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, streamlining content and maximizing the impact of both draws. The new combined Europa League and UEFA Conference League show will provide greater visibility for both competitions. The event will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 29, when clubs and fans will tune in to find out their opponents for the second season of the exciting new group stage. The two draws will be conducted in a fully digital format, using the same technology already employed last year to instantly determine opponents, ensuring a smooth, efficient, and fast draw process.
