New York, Sept. 4 (LaPresse) – Jannik Sinner beats Lorenzo Musetti in the all-Italian derby at the US Open and advances to the semifinals. The South Tyrolean, world No. 1, prevailed over his compatriot in three sets, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, in the first all-Italian men’s quarterfinal at a Slam. Sinner will face Felix Auger-Aliassime on Friday, who defeated Alex de Minaur. This marks Sinner’s fifth consecutive Grand Slam semifinal, and with a win on Friday, he would reach the final of all four Slams this year. He has won 26 consecutive matches on hard courts at Slams, including his last two Australian Open titles and last year’s triumph in New York. Sinner needed only two hours—the first set lasting just 27 minutes—to fend off all seven break points he faced. He has lost only 38 games in his five matches so far. Musetti tried to reach his first US Open semifinal after making it to the Roland Garros this year and Wimbledon in 2024.
