Rome, 4 January (LaPresse) – Matteo Arnaldi, ranked 61st in the world, did not take to the court for the decisive round of qualifying for the Brisbane International presented by ANZ, ATP 250, which is being played at the Queensland Tennis Centre. However, he was repêchaged as a lucky loser due to the withdrawal of Brazilian Joao Fonseca. In the match for access to the main draw, the Sanremo native was supposed to face Australian Rinky Hijikata (No. 113, in the draw with a wild card), who had beaten him in both previous head-to-head matches in 2024, in Delray Beach on hard court and at Queen's. In the main draw, Arnaldi was placed in the upper half of the draw. On Monday, he will make his debut against Germany's Daniel Altmaier (ATP 46), whom he defeated last year in Washington in their only previous meeting. The winner will face either Reilly Opelka (52) of the United States or Dane Sweeny (182) of Australia, with a possible quarter-final against the number 1 seed, Daniil Medvedev (13), on the horizon.
