Milan, 17 January (LaPresse) – Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso has died at the age of 76. The news was announced by the club in a statement published on its official website. Originally from Marina di Gioiosa Ionica, in the province of Reggio Calabria, he moved to the United States at the age of 12 to join his father. A football fan since he was a boy, Commisso acquired a majority stake in New York Cosmos, a North American second division football club, on 10 January 2017, and on 6 June 2019, the purchase of the Fiorentina football team became official. “It is with great pain and sadness that the Commisso family, including his wife Catherine, his children Giuseppe and Marisa, and his sisters Italia and Raffaelina, announce the passing of President Rocco B. Commisso. After a prolonged period of treatment, our beloved President has left us, and today we all mourn his passing,” reads the club's website.
